In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Channing opened up about why he and Jenna broke up and what his life was like before the breakup.

Channing said that he and Jenna “fighted the urge for a really long time” to break up, although we both kind of knew we’d sort of grown apart.

“I think we told each other a story when we were young,” he said, “and we just kept telling each other that story, no matter how obvious life was telling us we were so different.”

“But if you’re actually a parent, you really understand the differences between the two of you. Because it yells at you all day. How you educate differently, how you look at the world, how you go through the world.”

Channing also said that life after the breakup seemed “super scary and scary” at first. “Your life just revolves around its own axis,” he said. “This whole plan that you had literally turns to sand and slips through your fingers and you’re like, ‘Oh shit. What now?'”

When all was said and done, Channing says the breakup was actually “probably just what I needed.” “I don’t think I would ever have done the work on myself the way I had to do the work on myself to really figure out what’s next,” he added.

“And really, it just started with my daughter. I just dropped everything and just focused on her. And it really was the best thing I could have ever done.”

“Because in the alone time I have with just me and her, we’ve become best friends.”
