Work continues to strengthen Celac as a mechanism for coordination and political agreement.

BUENOS AIRES, Jan 18 (RHC) — The VII Summit of Heads of State or Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) will advocate unity in diversity, Argentine coordinator of that body Gustavo Martínez said on Wednesday.

In statements to the Telam news agency, the undersecretary of state for the country’s foreign ministry, who is also undersecretary of state, indicated that the meeting scheduled for the 24th of this month will highlight the importance of preserving the region as a zone of peace.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the representatives of the 33 member states will work to strengthen joint action and integration, while respecting the specificities of each one.

On the other hand, work continues to strengthen Celac as a mechanism for coordination and political agreement.

Martínez stressed that under Argentina’s pro tempore presidency, this body had gained momentum and presence in international fora, which had enabled it to defend the voice of Latin America and the Caribbean.

He also specified that Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero will present a report on the proposed goals and those achieved so far.

On the 12th of this month, Brazil confirmed its reinstatement to Celac after former President Jair Bolsonaro decided on January 16, 2020 to suspend his participation.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will attend the meeting and will be received by his counterpart Alberto Fernández the day before. (Source:PL)
