Car theft in Germany: A disabled girl sat in the back

An 11-year-old girl nonetheless found herself in a police chase after her mother’s car she was traveling in was stolen in Kehl, Germany.

It was around 3pm on Monday when the suspect stole the French-registered BMW that the young girl was in, media France Bleu reported.

The driver went away for a few minutes to run an errand, leaving his disabled daughter in the back seat and the key in the ignition. At this point, the man got into the vehicle and fled in the direction of France.

Before returning to Germany, there was a police chase on the French side. At around 3:50 p.m., the French and German authorities finally managed to intercept the car.

The girl was then taken into custody by the police. We can say that for the latter and her mother, there was more fear than harm.

The suspect, a 44-year-old Frenchman, could be charged with car theft and kidnapping.

“On the way, he damaged several cars, some seriously,” German police said in a statement.
