Candy Cane Lane First Trailer: Eddie Murphy stars in his first-ever live-action Christmas movie – in which he almost ruins Christmas

The first trailer for the film Candy Cane Lane was released on Wednesday.

Eddie Murphy, 62, stars in the light-hearted holiday film, with Tracee Ellis Ross playing his wife.

The comedy icon plays a man who makes a deal with a mischievous elf who casts a spell that brings the 12 days of Christmas to life.

The film, directed by Reginald Hudlin, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 1, 2023.

The clip begins with Murphy telling his family not to “freak out” over his Christmas surprise.

“I just want this to be the best Christmas ever,” the comedian can be heard saying off camera.

When he enters the Kringle store and is surprised by a woman looking at the beautiful decorations, there is a hint that something could be going terribly wrong.

And it does.

Christmas is turning into chaos. “This is crazy,” Murphy’s character says when Drake’s name is left out as part of a family joke.

Prime Video released first glimpses of the film on Tuesday.

The studio released a poster showing the Oscar nominee holding a string of lights and wearing a black turtleneck with Santa Claus riding a unicorn.

“Don’t mess with Christmas magic,” the publicity department wrote alongside the photo on social media.

“Candy Cane Lane premieres on Prime Video December 1st.”

It is his first live-action holiday film in his 40-plus year career.

The film reunited Eddie with Boomerang director Reginald.

The director described Eddie’s character Chris Carver to People as a man who loves Christmas so much that he even gave all of his children Christmas-themed names.”

The children’s names are Holly, Joy and Nick.

When Chris is unexpectedly laid off just before Christmas, “he throws himself into winning his neighborhood’s Candy Cane Lane home decorating contest, which has a huge cash prize,” the director explained.

However, after Chris finds some amazing 12 Days of Christmas decorations that he is sure will give him a leg up on the competition, he discovers that they are cursed by “a wayward elf named Pepper”, played by my Jillian Bell became.

“Instead of winning everything, he could now lose everything!” explained the filmmaker.

The Cursed Ornaments are played by Nick Offerman, Chris Redd and Robin Thede.

“Nick Offerman plays a real English gentleman from another time, while Robin Thede plays a Kardashian-esque power shopper and Chris Redd plays a working-class everyman,” the director explained.

“They don’t get along that well, but they are united in their urgent need to escape Pepper’s clutches.”

He described Pepper as someone who “takes the ‘coal in the camp’ punishment to absurd levels.”

Ross, 50, plays Chris’ wife, Carol, who holds the family’s finances together and is seeking a promotion at the distribution center where she works as an executive.

“When Christmas and her family are threatened by supernatural forces, her mama bear instincts come into play,” claimed Reginald.

“I can say with certainty that you have never seen a holiday movie like this!” “We have jump scares, car chases and kung fu fights, plus all that holiday feeling,” he revealed.
