There were again several gunshot deaths in the United States. According to eyewitnesses, a man shot himself with an automatic rifle, according to police, nine people died. The attack took place on the sidelines of a Chinese New Year celebration.

The incident took place on Saturday night, shortly after 10 pm (local time, 7 am CET on Sunday) in Monterey Park, an eastern suburb of the greater Los Angeles area. For the time being, little information was available, the sheriff’s department put the death toll at nine. One motive was as unknown as the shooter. It was unclear where he was staying, he said.
The shots were fired at the site of a Chinese New Year celebration in Monterey Park, US media reported. Tens of thousands of people attended the festival earlier in the day.
Crime scene apparently dance club
The owner of a restaurant near the crime scene told the Los Angeles Times that three people rushed into his restaurant and asked him to lock the door. They said the shooter carried enough ammo to continue reloading. The incident apparently took place at a nightclub. Resident Wong Wei told the newspaper that his girlfriend was in the nightclub’s bathroom when she heard gunshots. Later, she saw an armed man and three bodies – two women and the nightclub owner.
Images posted on social media showed the injured on stretchers. Roads were cordoned off around the shooting scene.
