Shooting at a nightclub in Monterey Park east of Los Angeles: Ten dead, many injured. Chinese New Year was celebrated in the area
Filming at a nightclub in Monterey Park in east Los Angeles. According to the police, there are at least ten victims and many injured. The killer, a man whose identity is unknown, is still being sought. The motive for the gesture is unknown at this time.

At around 10:20 p.m. local time, dozens of police officers intervened at a nightclub in the city after gunfire was reported. Chinese New Year was celebrated in the area where the shooting took place. The dynamics of the shooting has yet to be clarified – pending a police press conference – but according to testimonies collected by the local press, the attacker was carrying a machine gun and plenty of ammunition, so much that he was able to reload the weapon . Local media reports that several injured people were treated at the scene, while others were transported to area hospitals. As mentioned, there are ten confirmed casualties so far, but there are several injured (at least ten), so the toll could rise.

nor about his identity and possible motives. For now, police have limited themselves to saying one man has not yet been captured.
Hate crimes against Asians
Monterey Park, population 60,000, is located 15 km from Los Angeles. The city is home to a large Chinese-American community, so Chinese New Year celebrations are particularly popular. People of Asian descent in the United States often face episodes of intolerance, even leading to violence in the most extreme cases: Hate crimes against Asian minorities in the United States have increased in recent years. Just over a year ago, in Atlanta, Georgia, a man killed eight people, including six Asians, in three separate shootings at local health clubs: 22-year-old Robert Aaron Long, the gunman, is believed to have deliberately attacked women of Asian descent. The man has already pleaded guilty to the murder of four of his victims and has been sentenced to life in prison. The trial for the remaining four murders is expected in 2023.
