Calcaterra reveals the reason behind his departure from Cristal and praises Universitario fans

The veteran midfielder mentioned that he intends to stay at Sporting Cristal; However, there was one aspect that was crucial for the move to Team Merengue.

One of the surprises in the Peruvian football transfer market was the arrival of Horacio Calcaterra at Universitario de Deportes. The experienced midfielder gave up Sporting Crystal After almost 10 years he decided to give himself a new chance in the cream shop. Although some fans questioned his inclusion, the player himself was encouraged to reveal the reasons behind his decision.

“The decision to come to the Universitario was mine. Manuel Barreto had a lot to do with my decision because I was convinced. I felt that there wasn’t such confidence on the other side (Sporting Cristal),” he said 33-year-old footballer in dialogue with RPP.

Likewise, ‘Calca’ was clear and emphasized that he intends to remain in Florida. “At Sporting Cristal they decided not to give me a long contract. My idea was to stay but I didn’t feel that support. I wanted to stay in Lima because of my family and I decided to go to Universitario,” he added added.

On the other hand, the Peru team’s midfielder praised the student fans after what happened at Noche Crema 2023. “I really liked the welcome I received at Noche Crema. I know that because of my past at Cristal, there will be people who disagree, but if you do things right on the pitch, you can undo them,” he said.

Next university game

Although the start of the inaugural tournament had to be postponed due to social protests in different parts of the country, the organization mentioned that the ball will roll on February 3 with the third day. With that in mind, Universitario would debut at home against Cantolao on Sunday, February 5.
