Buzz Aldrin marries on his 93rd birthday: Astronaut legend marries for fourth time

The second man on the moon is getting married for the fourth time as astronaut legend Buzz Aldrin announced he was marrying his longtime girlfriend on his birthday.

Mr Aldrin, who turned 93 on Friday and was part of the historic first-ever lunar landing mission, made the sweet announcement of his new bride, who is 30 years his junior, on his Twitter account.

“On my 93rd birthday and the day I am also honored by Living Legends of Aviation, I am pleased to announce that my longtime love, Dr. Anca Faur and I tied the knot. We were wed in holy marriage in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles and we’re as excited as eloping teenagers.

dr Faur, 63, currently serves as Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC. Her LinkedIn page lists her as having been with the company since 2019.

She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and was a stint as Treasurer of the California Hydrogen Business Council.

Mr. Aldrin was previously married and divorced three times, to Joan Ann Archer from 1954 to 1974, to Beverly Van Zile from 1975 to 1978, and to Lois Driggs Cannon from 1988 to 2012.

The second man to touch the surface of the moon has three children – James, Janice and Andrew – with his first wife, Mrs Archer.

He has one grandson, Jeffrey Schuss, by daughter Janice, three great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mr. Aldrin retired from NASA in 1971 and in 1998 founded the ShareSpace Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the expansion of human space exploration.

After going down in the history books with Neil Armstrong, Mr Aldrin said he struggled through a dark period when he didn’t know what to do with his life.

He battled depression and alcoholism but has been sober for more than 40 years.

In 2002, Mr. Aldrin escaped a charge of assault after he punched a man who demanded he swear on a Bible that the moon landing was not staged.

Five years ago he also sued two of his children – Andrew and Janice – and his former chief executive Christina Korp for stealing money from him and defaming his legacy by claiming he had dementia and Alzheimer’s.

He dropped the lawsuit in 2019 after his two children withdrew their requests for guardianship of his affairs.

In 2007, Mr. Aldrin said he recently had a facelift and joked that the G-forces he was exposed to in space caused “a sagging cheek that needed some attention” while he had to be evacuated from the South Pole in 2016 after an illness.

The retired astronaut has also remained in the public eye with cameo appearances on hit American television shows such as The Big Bang Theory, The Simpsons and 30 Rock.

Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear was even named in honor of Mr. Aldrin.

He has written a number of books, but in recent years he has been calling for the colonization of Mars.

The 92-year-old said a “great migration” was necessary not only for exploration but also for humankind’s continued survival.
