(CNN) — Buckingham Palace revealed the details of King Charles III’s coronation. known, which will be celebrated across the country for three days and in which the public will take part.

The Coronation takes place on Saturday 6th May, a ‘Grand Coronation Dinner’ and ‘Coronation Concert’ the following day and an additional holiday on Monday. The public is invited on the final day to join The Big Help Out by volunteering in their communities.

“Everyone is invited to get involved every day,” said Michelle Donelan, UK Secretary for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, in a statement.

“Whether it’s throwing a special block party, watching the coronation ceremony or a spectacular concert on TV, or getting involved during The Big Help Out to support causes close to their hearts.”

The coronation itself will be “a solemn service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry,” led by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the palace said.

The palace reiterated that it will “reflect the role of the monarch today and look to the future, taking root in long-standing traditions and pageantry”.

This palace line has been interpreted by experts as an indication that Charles’ coronation will be different and more subdued than that experienced by his late mother seven decades earlier, with a shorter ceremony and changes to some of the ritual’s feudal elements. The coronation of Queen Elizabeth was the first live televised royal event and lasted three hours.

Charles and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, will arrive at Westminster Abbey in a procession from Buckingham Palace known as ‘The King’s Procession’ and later in a larger ceremonial procession known as ‘The King’s Procession’ accompanied by others members of the royal family.

The King and Queen Consort will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace along with members of the Royal Family to wrap up the day’s events.

At this time, the palace has not determined which family members will appear in the procession and on the balcony, following Prince Andrew’s continued ban from public life following landmark sexual abuse allegations and the publication of Prince Andrew’s memoir Family.

“It would help Carlos a lot in terms of his image if Harry and Meghan were there,” royal historian Kate Williams previously told CNN. “It will look particularly bad for him if his son isn’t there because of course Harry is still very high in line to the throne, as are his sons.”

In a sign that not all Brits will celebrate the event, anti-monarchy campaign group Republic has vowed to protest near Westminster Abbey. “The coronation is a celebration of hereditary power and privilege, it has no place in modern society,” spokesman Graham Smith said in a statement.

“At a cost of tens of millions of pounds, this pointless game is a slap in the face to millions of people struggling with the cost of living crisis.

“We have already contacted the Metropolitan Police and hope they will facilitate a peaceful and meaningful protest. We intend to make our presence felt in Parliament Square when the Royal Procession passes through the Abbey.”

The day after the coronation, May 7, thousands of events are set to take place across the country as part of the Grand Coronation Luncheon, while “world music icons and contemporary stars” gather unannounced for a “Coronation Concert” on the East Lawn of Windsor Castle, shared the palace with

“The Grand Coronation Luncheon helps you bring the celebration right to your own street or backyard,” said Peter Stewart, director of outreach for the Eden Project, which organizes the event.

“Sharing friendship, food and fun together gives people more than just a good time: people feel less alone, make friends and are more involved in their community,” he added in a statement.

The concert will be attended by a public audience made up of volunteers from the King’s and Queen’s charities and several thousand members of the public selected by a national vote conducted by the BBC.

You’ll see a “world-class orchestra” perform performances of popular musicals directed by some of the world’s greatest artists, along with performers from the world of dance… and a selection of spoken-word sequences created by stage stars and presented to the screen”. Palace said, adding that a line-up would be released in due course.

A diverse group of British refugee choirs, NHS choirs, LGBTQ+ singing groups and deaf choirs will form The Coronation Choir and perform at the concert alongside The Virtual Choir, made up of singers from across the Commonwealth.

Well-known venues across the country will also be illuminated with projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations as part of the concert.

The celebrations will conclude on Bank Holiday Monday with hundreds of activities planned by local community groups for The Big Help Out.

“It’s going to be a celebration of volunteers,” said Jon Knight, executive director of the Together Coalition.

“The goal is to create a legacy of better-connected communities well beyond the coronation.”
