49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has gone from unknown third-stringer to starter directly responsible for San Francisco’s last seven wins.

On Thursday, he was asked how he’s kept his feet on the ground despite his winning streak.

“It was football, man,” Purdy told reporters. “I’m not trying to make more of it than it is. I’m a faith based guy so I keep my feet on the ground. I don’t see football like it’s literally everything. It’s about life, one way or another.

“It’s a game and it sure is my job and I take it very seriously but at the end of the day I know that as a person I’m not defined by wins or losses like I’m not. I’m not just a quarterback. I wasn’t born to just be a quarterback and play football, and that’s it. Like I have a life and stuff.

“And I remember that, but at the same time, man, I’m a competitor. I love taking part in competitions. I want to win at all costs and I enjoy that too, so here I am. So I keep my feet on the ground on everything, but I’m definitely grateful and blessed to be here.”

The 49ers should be grateful and blessed to have him. After repeatedly making (or not making) good, informed decisions about the status of the quarterback position over the past several years, the 49ers have been fortunate to find a man who could become their long-term answer.

With every passing win, it’s becoming more likely that Purdy will be the guy in 2023 and possibly beyond.
