“The Matrix (the system) is trying to trap me, but God knows the truth. There is no evidence on my file because I did nothing wrong,” the 36-year-old former kickboxer told reporters.

He spoke at the end of a multi-hour hearing of the judges responsible for the fight against organized crime (DIICOT) in Bucharest.

At his side, his brother Tristan, 34, also protested his innocence. “You have nothing against me,” he said.

The two men arrested at the end of December are accused of “founding an organized criminal organization, human trafficking and rape”.

The court last week extended their detention until February 27, a decision they are appealing. They can remain behind bars for a maximum of 180 days before possible charges are brought.

Their lawyer Eugen Vidineac stressed that they wanted “the truth to come out quickly”. “They made detailed statements, they cooperated” and have “trust”.

The day before, Andrew Tate had denounced “unjust imprisonment” to silence him on Twitter, where he has 4.8 million subscribers, “a political operation designed to undermine his influence”. He also regretted his prison conditions. “Roaches, lice and bed bugs are my only friends at night,” he wrote.

Two Romanians, a former police officer and Andrew Tate’s girlfriend, were also arrested on December 29 during a wide-ranging operation carried out after several months of investigations.

The alleged network, which has been operating since 2019, recruited “several victims, including minors,” for the purpose of sexual exploitation,” prosecutors said. They were duped by the two men, who faked feelings for them before being forced into prostitution and making porn films, prosecutors say.

The influencer with masculinist theses, who also has an American passport, was blocked on several social networks for misogynist statements. His Twitter account was recently restored. He coins his advice on helping men get rich through Hustler University, a coaching website that claims more than 160,000 clients.
