Since last Friday, British actor Julian Sands has been missing in the mountains of southern California affected by frost and storms and is now being searched for by helicopters and drones. This was announced by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, which was quoted by various media outlets as the BBC and the Guardian and only today revealed the identity of a person who had been reported missing for days.
The 65-year-old actor, star of films such as James Ivory’s ‘A Room with a View’, David Cronenberg’s ‘Naked Lunch’, Ken Russell’s ‘Gothic’, David Lynch’s ‘Boxing Helena’ and ‘Arachnophobia’ and who has lived for years he had in North Hollywood, in the Los Angeles area, hiked Mount Baldy in the Gabriel Mountains that was frequented by both hikers and skiers.
There is a high risk of avalanches in the area these days. Sands, an avid mountaineer and hiker, was reported missing by family members at 7pm last Friday when he failed to return.
