Brendan Fraser gets emotional as he wins te at Critics Choice Awards

Brendan Freiser won tonight (15) the 2023 Critics Choice Awards in the category Best actor for your role in The whale or The whale. The win made the actor a strong contender for the 2023 Oscar, but the Academy won’t release the nominees until that day January 24th.

Visibly moved, Brendan quoted Herman Melville with grace at the beginning of his speech. Back in the spotlight for her performance in the film Darren Aronofsky, Fraser described the film as “a work about love, redemption and finding light in a dark place”. The actor thanked his costars and said it took him 31 years to get to where he is now. Speaking to the director, Fraser continued his speech: “They found me and showed me where to go to get me where I needed to be.”

Finally, the actor addressed the audience and recalled his character: “If, like Charlie who I play in this film you’re struggling with obesity or you feel like you’re in a dark sea… If you have that strength, stop and follow the light, good things will happen”.

Fraser plays Charlie in The Whale. Mourning the death of his friend, he turned to food and gained more than 450 pounds. Now he’s trying to make friends with his teenage daughter (Sadie Sinkfrom Stranger Things) after the two grew apart over their relationship with another man.

The Whale, whose lyrics are based on the play of the same name Samuel D Hunter (who is also writing the screenplay for the feature), also has Hong Chau (Guardian), Samantha Morton (The Walking Dead Ty Simpsons (Jurassic World) in the cast.

According to the distributor, the drama arrives at the national theaters February 26th.
