Inquiries into the mysterious disappearance of a 45-year-old woman have found a body in a river in north-west England on Sunday, a case that is gripping in Britain.

The police criticized

Nicola Bulley, 45, was last seen near the River Wyre on January 27, shortly after taking her two daughters, aged 6 and 9, to school. Her phone was found on a bench in a park, still connected to a conference call and her dog was off a leash.

Local police have faced a barrage of criticism for their handling of the case, particularly after it was revealed she was suffering from alcohol-related problems related to menopause.

The disappearance area has seen an influx of media and amateur detectives. Lancashire Police announced on Sunday that a further search of the river “unfortunately” resulted in the discovery of a body. “Procedures to identify the body are ongoing,” police said in a statement, adding that the cause of death had not been determined. “Nicola’s family have been informed of these developments and our thoughts are with them at this most difficult time,” she added.
