‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ shows Heat for A24 – Specialty Box Office

A24 body body body hits theaters this weekend in a limited opening with the highest per-screen average and second-best of the year. This record was set last spring Everything everywhere at once how this indie distributor accumulates success.

Halina Reijn’s Gen-Z crime comedy grossed $226,526 across six screens in New York and LA for a PSA of $37,754. Everything everywhere opened in late March on 10 screens in NYC, LA and San Francisco for over half a million dollars for a $50,965 PSA, a sort of pre-Covid number.

Bodies, a new take on crime fiction, expands in a stormy house party game gone awry, starring a young ensemble cast including Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Pete Davidson, Rachel Sennott, Myha’la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders and Lee Pace to about 1,200 screens next weekend.

The film, which premiered at SXSW, sold out on both coasts, where it played at Lincoln Square in New York, Union Square, Alamo Drafthouse Brooklyn and AMC Century City, Grove and Burbank in LA. With 91% critic and 80% audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, Bodies looks set for a strong run through the rest of the summer and beyond for A24, which has had tremendous success slinging art-house fare for important recent demos.

It’s expanding to LA as well as Portland next week. where Will Vinton Studios was based and the film is enjoying strong pre-sales. It agrees 100% with the Rotten Tomatoes critics.

Claydream will have a full theatrical window and will expand to top markets in August and beyond.

Holdovers: Focus Features Presentation by Blumhouse Revenge grossed $710,000 (down 60%) in 1,001 theaters in week two for estimated sales of $3.3 million to date.

Mrs. Harris goes to Parisalso from Focus, grossed an estimated US$560,000 (-40%) in 669 theaters in its fourth week, corresponding to US$8 million in domestic sales.

Focus and the Angelika Film Center just announced an initiative called “See More to Earn More,” giving members of the cinema chain’s new free loyalty program bonus points, popcorn, and merchandise for watching Focus Features films like “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, Vengeance and forthcoming Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul (Sept. 2), The Silent Twins (Sept. 16); TÁR (Oct 7), Armageddon Time (Oct 28) and Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies (Dec 2).

Bleecker Street A Lovesongearned $19,075 in week two across 18 screens for a weekend PSA of $1,059 and domestic profit of $40,375 through Sunday.

Lena Dunhams sharp stick by Utopia grossed $20,195 across 54 screens in week two for a PSA of $374 and a total gross of $42,968.

Returning to A24, Marcel The Shell With Shoes On grossed $318,150 across 498 screens in week seven for a total gross of $4.91 million. Everything Everywhere – the highest-grossing film of all time – sold for $129,350 in week 20 across 347 screens, for gross sales of $69.5 million.
