On Wednesday, the TSN network said the “Canes” have had several discussions with the British Columbia team about the 27-year-old skater.

However, the price for his services would still be too high for general manager Don Waddell’s liking.

Several observers have reported that the Canucks are seriously considering the possibility of a captain trade.

The latter could become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Horvat has been at the center of the rumors for a few weeks now, even publishing a press release saying he will no longer speak publicly about his contract situation.

The sniper is having a very good 2022-2023 season despite his club’s setbacks.

He has hit the target 30 times in 43 games so far and provided 18 assists for 48 points.

Before today’s matchup, the Canucks were sixth in the Pacific Division and 12 points behind the last-placed Western Conference playoff spot.

Getting back to the Hurricanes, the organization has a salary cap of about $3 million, according to industry-focused website CapFriendly.

Horvat is playing the final year of a six-year deal that has allowed him to earn $5.5 million annually.
