The lead single from BLACKPINK’s forthcoming sophomore album Born Pink, due out September 16, “Pink Venom,” was officially released Friday (August 19), along with a new music video. It didn’t take long for fans to realize that at the beginning of the song, Lisa briefly sings the lyrics and melody to one of the most famous lines in the verses of “Pon de Replay”: “It goes one after the other, even two two.”

“HAT LISA JUST REFERENCE PON DE REPLAY BY RIHANNA,” wrote an excited BLINK on Twitter after hearing the song, appropriately in all caps.

“LISA SHOWS HER MOM RIHANNA HOMMER,” wrote another. “I’M OBSESSED.”

“Pon de Replay” was the very first single the world heard from Rihanna, released as her debut project and the lead single from her debut studio album Music of the Sun in 2005. The song peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 27 weeks on the charts while Music of the Sun peaked at #10 on the Billboard 200.

BLACKPINK — alongside Lisa, Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé — has previously opened up about how Rihanna serves as their inspiration. And during the band’s interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, Jennie cited the Fenty founder as an example of just how versatile hip-hop can be.

“I don’t think hip-hop is all about rapping,” she said. “Look at Rihanna – she could do anything hip-hop. Hip hop means something different to everyone. For me it’s the spirit of cool – vibes, swag, whatever words you can use. I think BLACKPINK hip hop is something the world has never seen before.”
