Biden promises more weapons deliveries to Ukraine

US President Joe Biden has promised Ukraine another billion dollars in weapons supplies. In a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Biden said the supplies would include additional artillery, coastal defense weapons and ammunition, according to the White House. The US president also pledged another $225 million in humanitarian aid.

Biden assured Zelenskyy in the roughly 40-minute call today “that the US will stand with Ukraine as it defends its democracy and support its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of unprovoked Russian aggression.”

At a meeting of Ukraine’s contact group in Brussels, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had previously promised more Western arms deliveries to the country. Zelenskyy has repeatedly called on the West to supply Ukraine with more weapons.
