Bengals land Devin Asiasi, Max Scharping and Jay Tufele; Lose Kendric Pryor

It was announced earlier today that the Cincinnati Bengals would sign OJ Howard following his release from the Buffalo Bills.

While that remains to be seen, the Bengals added another new tight end in Devin Asiasi, which the New England Patriots waived in final roster cuts.

That’s not all, as the Bengals have also claimed guard Max Scharping and defensive tackle Jay Tufele. ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news on all three supplements. It’s unclear how the Bengals made room for all three signings.

Not all news is good, as Jacksonville Jaguars’ Kendric Pryor has claimed. The Bengals hoped to bring him back into the training squad.

Asiasi, a 2020 Patriots third-round pick, played collegiately for the UCLA Bruins and was compared to former Atlanta Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler, who entered the 2020 draft.

However, Asiasi failed to stand out in a narrow Patriots room that features Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith. In 10 career games, Asiasi has caught just two passes (seven goals) for 39 yards and a touchdown. He only played one game in the 2021 season.

Scharping, a 2019 Houston Texans second-round pick, played in Northern Illinois and has played in 48 NFL games (33 starts) during the 2021 season, including all 17 games (11 starts). He played on both left and right flanks last year, but mainly on the right flank.

Tufele, a fourth-round pick by the Jags in 2021, played for the USC Trojans in college and appeared in four games (no starts) as a rookie. Thanks to our very own Anthony Cosenza, you can see our 2021 draft profile of Tufele above.

The Bengals are yet to announce those additions as they need to take several other steps to make room for those three on the 53-man roster.
