Beaumont: He rushes to City Hall to get in

A man in his 60s has been arrested for breaking into Beaumont City Hall after hitting it with his vehicle.

The incident happened on the Chemin du Domaine in the municipality of Chaudière-Appalaches during the night from Monday to Tuesday.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), in this case the suspect intentionally caused damage to the municipal building by driving his vehicle into it. He was arrested while inside the building.

“We do not yet know the reasons for his break-in, no theft was committed,” said provincial police spokeswoman Béatrice Dorsainville.

The man, in his 60s, was met and questioned by investigators. He is scheduled to appear at the Montmagny courthouse on Wednesday.

He faces charges of mischief, burglary and dangerous driving. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident as the building was unoccupied at night.
