Former Trump strategist and podcaster Steve Bannon has attacked Mike Pence as a “brainless, cowardly simpleton” after the former vice president defended the FBI when he demanded it “disappoint” for the Mar-a-Lago heist.
“Mike Pence said, ‘We’ve got to stop criticizing, we’re a law and order party,'” Bannon said on his War Room podcast. “That’s what that brainless, cowardly fool said.”
Pence on Wednesday in New Hampshire urged other Republicans to stop attacking the FBI after it conducted a search of Trump’s Florida property.
“Our party stands with the men and women who stand on the thin blue line at the federal, state and local levels, and these attacks on the FBI must stop. Demands to disappoint the FBI are just as wrong as demands to disappoint the police,” Pence said.

“I also want to remind my Republicans that we can hold the attorney general accountable for the decision he made without attacking the FBI’s low-level law enforcement staff,” the former vice president said, also at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire.
Bannon, the chief strategist behind Trump’s 2016 campaign and his 2017 administration, said of Pence, “This is a person who has done more damage to this country than any other person in modern political history. He’s a coward.”
“Even looking at you annoys me,” he said of Pence. ‘Just a disgusting coward. Of course we are the law and order party, right. But that’s not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about a police state. And you don’t have the courage to fight back.”
Trump accused the FBI of corruption after it collected dozens of boxes of documents from his private home.
“The FBI has a long and unrelenting history of corruption,” he posted Sunday on his Truth Social platform. The agency is currently headed by Christopher Wray, a Republican he appointed in 2017.
Bannon, meanwhile, was convicted of contempt of Congress after refusing to comply with a Jan. 6 subpoena from the committee to testify. He will face a prison sentence of between 30 days and a year and a fine in October.
The FBI and Department of Homeland Security have warned of possible violent threats against law enforcement following the raid, which was secured after investigators received a warrant. Attorney General Merrick Garland confirmed that he signed off on the decision.

A gunman had been killed with an AR-15 assault rifle after trying to break into the FBI field office in Columbus, Ohio. He had posted on Trump’s social network Truth, where he posted that he had “attempted to attack the FBI.”
Pence also said this week that he would “consider” testifying before the January 6 committee.
“If there was an invitation to participate, I would consider it. But you heard me mention the Constitution a few times this morning,’ he said said. “Under the Constitution we have three equal branches of government. Each time I’ve been invited, I’ve had to reflect on the unique role I’ve served as Vice President. It would be unprecedented in history for a Vice President to be subpoenaed to testify on Capitol Hill.’
On Thursday, a federal judge in Florida ordered the Justice Department to prepare a redacted version of the affidavit supporting the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago — opening the door to more public information about the investigation leading up to the move.
