Banksy unveils work on domestic violence for Valentine’s Day

He chose Tuesday February 14th, Valentine’s Day, considered the celebration of lovers in many countries, to unveil a new engaging creation. Street artist Banksy has unveiled a work that appears to highlight the issue of domestic violence, painted on the wall of a building in the seaside resort of Margate in south-east England.

It shows a 1950s or 1960s housewife with a black eye and a broken tooth, while a man’s legs are sticking out of an old, real freezer leaning against the wall. The work, titled Valentine’s Day Mascara, was claimed by the artist on his Instagram account on February 14.

Records at an auction

Three years ago, the mysterious Bristol artist, who works under a pseudonym, had already painted a work for Valentine’s Day: a little girl firing a catapult at a bouquet of red flowers.

Ever since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, Banksy, whose works regularly break records at auction, has been supporting Ukrainians. In January, he offered 50 screen prints for sale to raise funds for the benefit of civilians.

And he had posted a video on his Instagram account in mid-November compiling his stenciled works in the country, including the one depicting a person wearing a gas mask in Hostomel, thereby confirming he was the author.
