Baker shares a previously unseen snap as she crafts a £244 cake for Harry and Meghan’s daughter Lilibet

The baker who made the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding cake has revealed a new snap of a £244 two-tier strawberry buttercream cake with flowers, made for Lilibet’s first birthday.

Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan Markle, 41, were enjoying the British summer sunshine and threw a ‘relaxed’ garden party for their daughter at the Windsor estate in June, complete with birthday cake, balloons, board games and picnic snacks.

East London baker Claire Ptak – who made the couple’s wedding cake in 2018 – created treats for the low-key party, including a two-tier cake topped with a seasonal strawberry buttercream.

And yesterday she shared a new snap of the cake on Instagram as part of a highlights reel of 2022 with the caption: “Our 2022 Greatest Hits. Thank you to all of our customers and supporters over the past year for inspiring such beautiful work.

“Thanks to my incredible team for making it all happen with so much fun, humor and passion.”

At first glance, she can be seen placing a pink peony on top of the cake, bearing the boy’s name.

It was complete with an Amalfi lemon and elderflower filling and a light buttercream.

The bakery’s website describes the cake as having “three layers of vanilla sponge, drizzled with elderflower syrup and filled with Amalfi Lemon Curd.”

The top and sides of the cake are “glazed with a buttercream scented with the juice and zest of lemons from the Amalfi Coast and decorated with chopped candied Amalfi lemon zest”.

At the time, Claire, who owns the bakery and painstakingly designed the incredible cake, wrote on the brand’s Instagram: “It was an absolute pleasure to bake this special cake for Lilibet’s birthday last week.

“I wish her a very happy year ahead!”

She added, “The inside was the Amalfi Lemon Elderflower Cake I created for the Duke and Duchess’ wedding in 2018, but this time we topped it with a strawberry buttercream especially for Lilibet.”

Among the gifts for the tot was apparently a pastel pink VW Beetle ride-on car, £75 from Selfridges, while Sussex supporters donated $100,000 to charity in her honor.

Prince Charles may have bought her a swing similar to the one he bought for Prince George – after an aide to the Sussexes was seen unloading it from their private jet in Santa Barbara.

A spokesman for the couple didn’t name any family members attending the party at the time, but it was believed Zara and Mike Tindall had turned up. But Prince William, Kate, George and Charlotte were in Wales representing the Queen.

Those also believed to have stayed at Frogmore Cottage include Zara and Mike Tindall’s three children, Mia, 8, Lena, 3, and Lucas, 1, as well as Savannah, 11, and Isla, 10, the daughters by Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly.

Three-year-old Archie’s godfather, Charlie Van Straubenzee, and his brother Tom, godfather to Princess Charlotte, were also invited, it is said.

Omid Scobie, royal Twitter commentator and friend of the Sussexes, said the couple were treating close friends and family to an “intimate backyard picnic” when he posted the picture.

The pair later shared clips of the event with their fans on their bombshell Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan.

In the videos, the Duke and Duchess can be seen lifting Lilibet up as she blows out the candles on her cake.

The latest snap of the birthday cake comes as sources claimed the royal family was “completely exhausted” with the “torrent of misinformation” from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The comments come in the wake of Prince Harry’s publicity blitz for his new autobiography, Spare, due for publication next week, during which he has claimed his family have “showed absolutely no willingness to reconcile”.

He also claimed he “would love to have my dad and brother back” in trailers for two interviews with ITV’s Tom Bradby and CBS’ Anderson Cooper that aired yesterday.

A royal insider told The Mirror: “It all feels very repetitive. Harry’s constant snooping is quite exhausting and he knows full well that it’s very unlikely that they’ll engage in a war of words.’
