BAFTAs 2023: Bookmakers’ favorites Cate Blanchett and Colin Farrell win ahead of Sunday’s ceremony

Colin Farrell and Cate Blanchett are the bookmakers’ favorites to triumph at the 76th British Academy Film Awards on Sunday.

The stars are expected to be recognized with Best Actor and Best Actress awards for their roles in The Banshees Of Inisherin and Tar.

However, Michelle Yeoh, 60, is just behind with her mesmerizing performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once after waiting 40 years to be nominated.

According to Betfair, Colin, 46, was rated 8/13, followed by Brendan Fraser at 11/4 for his comeback role in drama The Whale.

Meanwhile, Cate, 53, enjoys healthy odds of 8/15, followed by Michelle, who has bookies placed at 15/8.

Cate is tipped to win both an Oscar and a Bafta, despite only just ahead of Michelle.

Richard E. Grant will be hosting this year’s BAFTAs alongside This Morning host Alison Hammond, 48.

Speaking to Radio Times, he said the awards organizers know he will not “roast” his fellow actors during the event.

The star – known for roles in Gosford Park, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker and Downton Abbey – will host the awards ceremony at the Southbank Center’s Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday.

He said he was “amazed” to be in the company of comedians Stephen Fry, Graham Norton and Rebel Wilson, who were hosting.

Last year, Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids actress Wilson made risqué jokes about the royal family, Vladimir Putin, the gender pay gap, her flop film Cats and her recent weight loss.

Richard added, “So I was surprised… and I thought because I was so outrageously thrilled at the awards ceremony four years ago when I was nominated for (a Bafta).

“[Bafta organizers]need to know that I’m going to be more of a party-loving person than someone who’s there to toast other actors so hopefully, that’s going to work out, I don’t know yet.”

Alison, who presents ITV’s This Morning with Dermot O’Leary and has attended Strictly Come Dancing, said: “I’m delighted to be hosting with THE Richard E Grant at this year’s EE Bafta Film Awards.

She added: “We’re going to have a blast bringing the glitz and glamor of backstage to everyone watching at home around the world.

“From hanging out with the stars, to partying at the biggest movie night, to engaging in discussions with movie fans, get ready to be in a good mood.”

Film critic Ali Plumb said he was thrilled to host Bafta’s red carpet show alongside his “boyfriend,” host Vick Hope, who in turn called him “brilliant.”

Vick said: “I know we will have a lot of fun bringing the glamor and anticipation of the incoming nominees to all viewers around the world.”

Bafta executive director Jane Millichip said all of the hosts “exude wit, charm and warmth.”

She added: “Much loved by our audience at home, Richard also commands great respect from his industry peers.

“And I can’t think of anyone better to complement Richard’s razor-sharp wit and lead our brand new Bafta studio than Alison Hammond, with her brilliantly entertaining and candid interviewing style.”

For the first time, the ceremony will include a live broadcast to announce the final four category winners, having previously been taped and then broadcast on the same day.

The 76th British Academy Film Awards will be broadcast on BBC1 on Sunday 19 February at 7pm
