2023 BAFTA nominations: Ana de Armas, Austin Butler and Paul Mescal are among the stars receiving their first-ever nominations

The BAFTA nominations were announced Thursday and 14 of the 24 nominees in the performance categories received their first BAFTA film nominations.
Ana de Armas, 34, Austin Butler, 31, and Paul Mescal, 26, were among the first nominees for their work in Blonde, Elvis, and Aftersun, respectively.
The nominations were announced Thursday by Hayley Atwell and Toheeb Jimoh, ahead of next month’s ceremony for the 76th Annual Film Awards, which is scheduled to be hosted by actor Richard E Grant and television presenter Alison Hammond.

Blonde is a fictional chronicle of the inner life of Marilyn Monroe.
Elvis tells the life story of American music icon Elvis Presley, from his childhood through his career as a rock and film star in the 1950s while maintaining a complex relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.
Aftersun tells the story of a girl named Sophie, played by Frankie Corio, who reflects on the shared joy and private melancholy of a vacation she took with her father twenty years earlier.
In addition, Angela Bassett received a nomination for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Colin Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin, Brendan Fraser for The Whale and Ke Huy Quan for Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Four of the six directors nominated for the first time are in the Best Director category

Gina Prince-Bythewood for The Woman King, Todd Field for Tár, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Edward Berger for All Quiet on the Western Front.
The Banshees of Inisherin and All Quiet on The Western Front lead the nominations for this year’s EE British Academy Film Awards.
The EE BAFTA Film Awards will be held at the Southbank Center’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 19 February and will be televised in the UK from 7pm to 9pm on BBC1 and iPlayer and syndicated worldwide.

Stars: Aftersun follows 12-year-old Sophie (Frankie Corio) as she goes on a melancholic vacation with her father, Calum (Paul Mescal).
Film critic Ali Plumb and presenter Vick Hope will host the pre-show red carpet @BAFTA.
For the first time at the ceremony, the winners of the final four categories will be announced live on the show, allowing audiences at home to be part of the excitement as it takes place.
