Backstage news of Tony Khan meeting CM Punk in front of AEW Dynamite, more on the punk situation – wrestling headlines

Sources at AEW have reportedly confirmed that AEW World Champion CM Punk has broken free in Wednesday’s Dynamite opening promo and that things are heating up between Punk and “Hangman” Adam Page, but there are people within AEW who believe that this might be turned into a plot at some point.

We reported earlier this week how Punk reportedly went his own way during Wednesday’s opening promo on AEW Dynamite when he called out “Hangman” Adam Page. You can click here for the latest backstage update on the punk situation and backstage heat with Page.

In an update, PWTorch.com VIP’s Wade Keller commented on the situation with Punk and Page and how some feel that Tony Khan, AEW’s President, CEO, General Manager and Head of Creative, and others at the company aren’t making it another edited shooting angle.

“Someone I spoke to today [said] that wrestlers in general don’t feel that doing another kind of work shoot thing is too much for Tony Khan and others. And he just said [that] he didn’t think that was the case here,” Keller said. “But he said, keep that in mind, even if there’s a beef, they might be like, ‘Hey, let’s step this up. Let’s make something out of it.” And so he said let’s see how things play out once we understand why the punk Moxley match was scheduled so early and so on. Let’s see how that plays out, because it might turn out, yes, there was something, but then they expanded and amplified it past the breaking point because they thought it was believable and it would turn heads.”

It was reported earlier in the week that some felt that punk might not have appeared at AEW Dynamite in Charleston, WV on Wednesday, which apparently didn’t happen. Keller commented on how Khan met Punk in the dressing room before the show.

“I can report that Tony Khan went into Punk’s dressing room and had a decent one on one time with him [Wednesday] afternoon,” said Khan. “I can also report that just before Dynamite started, Punk wasn’t excited or distracted or wasn’t his usual self. It didn’t seem like he was thinking about anything or that it was a stressful day or anything. He went completely through the normal movements. So there are just a couple of contextual things.”

Punk’s Dynamite performance was only announced around 7:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

It was reported earlier today that there is a significant amount of backstage drama at AEW right now, particularly among the top talent. You can click here for this report.
