EXCLUSIVE: Margot Robbie’s uncle sets record straight over Hollywood star’s alleged falling out with estranged father: ‘They are in a relationship’

  • Wayne Robbie is the brother of Margot’s father, Doug
  • The Gold Coast agent says the couple are in regular contact
  • Doug and Margot’s mother separated when Margot was a toddler
  • Robbie family ‘hugely proud of actress’

Hollywood superstar Margot Robbie’s uncle has clarified the actress’ relationship with her allegedly estranged father.

Wayne Robbie, who runs a major real estate company on the Gold Coast, denied recent reports that his brother Doug has never had a relationship with Margot and that they get along badly.

“That has never been the case,” Wayne told Chron Australia.

“He definitely has a relationship with her. He’s very proud of her.”

Wayne also confirmed that his brother – a retired sugar cane farmer and real estate developer who now lives in Airlie Beach – recently traveled to Sydney to see Margot when she was in town for the premiere of her new film Babylon.

It comes a few years after reports first circulated that the Wolf of Wall Street star – born and raised by mother Sarie Kessler in the Gold Coast – had cut all ties with her father.

Speaking to The Sun UK in 2016, Margot admitted her contact with her father was limited, adding: “I’m not like him at all”.

It was revealed at the time that her younger brother Lachlan – or Lockie – remained close to his father, but two other siblings – Anya and Cameron – reportedly shared a relationship similar to Margot’s.

It is understood Doug split from Sarie when the children were young, leaving the single mother to raise four children on the Gold Coast alone.

All four attended the exclusive private school Somerset College before Margot found fame and fortune in Hollywood, where she is now on course to snag her second Oscar nomination for Babylon.

Wayne said his niece’s career has been a huge source of pride for the Robbie clan – most of whom live on the Gold Coast.

“It’s Margot’s life and we don’t take part in commenting. But we are very proud of Margot and all that she has achieved,” he told Chron Australia.

“We just kind of have a policy of speaking to the media – that’s really up to her if she wants to say anything publicly.

“But we’re proud of them. And Doug is exactly the same. He was down there for the opening of the movie and I know they have a relationship.

“Doug has been retired for a long time now. But he is in touch with Margot and all the children.”

Margot, 32, who is fiercely loyal to her mother, regularly speaks about their close relationship and has said any children she has will grow up in the Gold Coast to be close to their grandmother.

The couple recently walked the red carpet at the Babylon premiere in Los Angeles, where reporters compared Sarie – a retired physical therapist – to Margot’s sister for her strikingly youthful looks.

Margot, who missed out on an Oscar nomination for her work in Babylon this year, famously used her first big paycheck to repay her mother with the money she gave her to build her career while she was starting out.

‘I spent it to pay you back, Mum. Do not you remember? I was in so much debt by the end of 12th grade,” she said in a 2019 Vogue interview.

“I had everything I owed you written down on a piece of paper, and every time I got a paycheck, I paid my debt, but then I kept the piece of paper because it was so satisfying in the end, too.” know that I had paid it all back.’
