Avatar’s financial prowess continues to spur Hollywood on. The second feature film in the franchise, The Way of Water, just hit $1.93 billion in grossing income, nearing the $2 billion needed to pay the bills.
Historically, James Cameron’s project is second only to five other films in terms of money raised: Avengers: Infinity War ($2.05 billion), Star Wars VII ($2.07 billion), dollars), Titanic ($2.2 billion), Avengers: Endgame ($2.8 billion), and the first Avatar ($2.9 billion).
“Avatar: O Caminho da Água” is a phenomenon of the globalization of cinema. 70% of the animation’s box office was earned outside the United States. It’s an opposite profile to that of Top Gun: Maverick, which focused almost half of its earnings on the domestic market.
