She was also spotted wearing a diamond bracelet, given to her for her 50th birthday, which bears the initials of her husband and their three daughters, Crown Princess Amalia, 18, Princess Alexia, 17, and Princess Ariane, 15.

Jonathan Drouin takes life on the bright side but Martin St-Louis is losing patience

ST. LOUIS | There was a time when Jonathan Drouin might have been grumpy or snorted as he was shown the way to the catwalk by his head trainer. At twenty-seven he claims to have passed the age of such childishness.

• Also read: Another chapter in Marc-André Fleury’s career

• Also read: Good news for the Canucks

Confined to the role of spectator, Saturday against the Blues was the third time Drouin had been scraped out of training by Martin St-Louis this season. If the first two times were due to the need for an extra period of fitness, this weekend wasn’t.

  • Listen to Jean-François Baril’s sports report live every day at 6:43 a.m. above QUB radio :

“I keep the good attitude and work hard. We have 15 attackers so I know some nights it’s up to me to skip my train,” Drouin said after coaching the Canadians in St. Louis before heading to Minnesota.

That attitude is in stark contrast to his rookie season. Set aside for his first steps in the 12-game Lightning organization, he refused to report to the Syracuse Crunch early in the following campaign before changing his mind.

“It’s easier now than it was then. When you’re 18 or 19, you’re embarrassed to knock on the coach’s door to ask questions. I have a great relationship with Martin. It’s easy to talk to him about hockey. As soon as I saw the formation, I had a chat with Martin,” Drouin explained.

Archive photo, Martin Chevalier

“You can also learn from above,” says Jonathan Drouin comfortingly, even if he is left out by head coach Martin St-Louis.

A student of the game

The latter may reiterate that Evgenii Dadonov, Rem Pitlick and he were saved due to the excess of healthy players in attack. We agree that the Canadian pilot didn’t randomly pull three names out of a hat.

Irrespective of this, Drouin wants to find something positive in every situation. It is also important to him to make optimal use of his time on the bridge.

“I’m a student of the game,” he argued. You can also learn something from above. Even at 27. For example, you can learn things about your team, about your own teammates; Guys you could play with in a week or two. »

“Sometimes you recognize certain things. You understand that you have more time with the puck than you think,” he continued.

The great secret of Evgenii Dadonov

While the situation at Drouin seems clear, it is less so on Evgenii Dadonov’s side. The forward was not on the ice with his teammates on Monday afternoon. The team determined that the Russian needed treatment.

Curious as he didn’t face the Blues on Saturday.

In addition, St-Louis, revived by the number 63’s health, has lost patience.

“He wasn’t on the ice today! Chantal (Mahabée) told you. It’s just that, pounded the Canadian’s head coach. I don’t know (if something happened between Saturday and Monday). He wasn’t ready to practice today. »

upset

One wonders if Dadonov is not angry. Colleagues spotted him chatting with Kent Hughes after Saturday’s game.

Dadonov, who is in the last year of his contract ($5 million), has still not put his name on the scorers’ list.

He is one of St-Louis’ least used attackers (13min 29sec).

Also, it’s used much more in outnumbered situations than in massive attack.

You do not collect points here.

Brazilian Bolsonaro avoids concession to Lula but transition begins

Brazilian Bolsonaro avoids concession to Lula but transition begins

BRASILIA/SAO PAULO (Portal) – Brazil’s far-right President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday avoided acknowledging defeat in his first public statements since Sunday’s election loss, saying the protests since then have been the fruit of “outrage and a sense of injustice ‘ about The Choice.

His chief of staff, Ciro Nogueira, said after Bolsonaro’s brief public address that Bolsonaro had authorized him to start the transition process with representatives of the left, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Bolsonaro took more than 44 hours to make his first public statement since the election was decided by the electoral authorities, making him the first Brazilian president to lose a re-election bid. He still hasn’t spoken to Lula.

Amid his silence, supporters blocked highways to protest his defeat and some called for a military coup to prevent former President Lula from returning to power. Bolsonaro’s delay in recognizing Lula’s election fueled fears he would contest the close election result.

In a national speech that lasted only a few minutes on Tuesday, Bolsonaro thanked the Brazilians who voted for him and reiterated that he will abide by the country’s constitution, which provides for a January 1 transfer of power.

He described the demonstrations as a “popular movement” and said they should avoid destroying property or “interfering with the right to come and go”.

That may not be enough to defuse protests by small groups of his supporters across Brazil, which have begun causing economic disruption and are drawing calls from farm and retail groups for Bolsonaro to start a transition.

Close political allies, including his chief of staff and Vice President Hamilton Mourao, have begun reaching out to the Lula camp to discuss a transition. Others, including the speaker of the lower house of Congress, urged the Bolsonaro government to respect the election result.

Powerful agriculture lobby CNA, which represents farmers who have been key campaign donors to Bolsonaro, said it was ready for talks with the new government, which will take office on January 1.

Ahead of Sunday’s vote, Bolsonaro made repeated unfounded claims that the electoral system was vulnerable to fraud and accused the electoral authorities of favoring his left-wing opponent.

Lula’s win marks a stunning comeback for the 77-year-old former metalworker, who spent 19 months in prison on corruption convictions before they were overturned last year.

Lula has vowed to overturn many of Bolsonaro’s policies, including gun-friendly measures and weak protection of the Amazon rainforest.

AMD Third Quarter Results Live Blog

Four weeks after Advanced Micro Devices issued a sales warning, all eyes are on the quarterly sales forecast that the chip supplier is expected to publish in its latest earnings report.

Analysts polled by FactSet agree that AMD reported third-quarter revenue of $5.65 billion (up 31% annually, helped by AMD’s acquisition of Xilinx) and non-GAAP EPS of 0 $.69 (down 6%). The top-line figure is close to AMD’s preliminary guidance (released Oct. 6) for Q3 revenue of around $5.6 billion.

For the fourth quarter, AMD revenue consensus is $5.95 billion, up 23%, and EPS consensus is $0.80. The company typically shares quarterly and full-year revenue and gross margin guidance in its earnings reports.

Real Money tech columnist Eric Jhonsa will be live blogging AMD’s report, which is expected shortly after the market close on Tuesday, along with a earnings call by CEO Lisa Su and CFO Devinder Kumar, scheduled for March 17 :00 p.m. Eastern Time is scheduled.

Please refresh your browser for updates.

4:48 p.m. ET: Notable: AMD’s non-GAAP operating expenses were $1.52 billion in Q3, up 47% year over year (boosted by both the Xilinx deal and organic investments), but below original ~$1.64 billion forecast.

AMD forecasts operating expenses of ~$1.55 billion for Q4

4:41 p.m. ET: Q3 films for the gaming and embedded segments. As Xilinx reported revenue of $936 million for the September quarter of 2021, third-quarter embedded revenue of $1.3 billion indicates Xilinx Y/Y revenue grew strongly.

It’s worth noting that embedded also includes AMD’s sales of embedded CPUs. But on the other hand, it does not include Xilinx data center FPGA sales, which are counted in the data center segment.

AMD Q3 segments 2

4:36 p.m. ET: AMD’s Q3 slides for the Data Center and Client segments. The customer posted a small operation. Loss as sales plummeted while Data Center op. Earnings grow 64% on revenue growth of 45%.

Also, AMD says it has made initial shipments of its next-gen Epyc CPUs (Genoa), scheduled for release on 11/10.

AMD Q3 segments 1

4:33 p.m. ET: AMD remains moderately higher: shares are up 1.3% to $60.44.

4:31 p.m. ET: Also consistent with the prior announcement, AMD’s third-quarter non-GAAP gross margin (harmed by $160 million in fees) was 50%, down from 54% in the second quarter and up from 48.5 % last year.

The company expects non-GAAP GM of 51% in the fourth quarter. GM guidance for the full year was cut 2 points from July to 52%.

4:28 p.m. ET: In line with the Q3 advance notice, data center revenue totaled $1.6 billion (+45% Y/Y, buoyed by strong cloud demand and stock gains).

Client (PC CPU) revenue totaled $1 billion (down 40% due to weak PC demand and large inventory reductions). Gaming revenue totaled $1.6 billion (+14%, console SoC sales up, gaming GPU sales down). Embedded (mainly Xilinx) sales totaled $1.3 billion.

4:24 p.m. ET: Here’s the Q3 report for those interested.

4:22 p.m. ET: Also, maybe helpful: AMD expects its data center (server CPU) and embedded (Xilinx) segments to grow both Q/Q and Y/Y in the fourth quarter.

4:20 p.m. ET: AMD stock is now up 2.8% AH. Although the Q4 sales guide was light, informal expectations were well below consensus.

4:18 p.m. ET: Full year revenue guidance, which includes third quarter results and fourth quarter guidance, was lowered to $23.5 billion (+/- $300 million) from $26.3 billion in July.

4:17 p.m. ET: Shares are down 0.8% AH for now.

4:16 p.m. ET: results are there. Third quarter revenue of $5.57 billion is close to preliminary guidance of ~$5.6 billion. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.67 is slightly below a consensus of $0.69.

AMD expects fourth-quarter revenue of $5.5 billion plus or minus $300 million. That’s below a consensus of $5.95 billion.

4:10 p.m. ET: I’m still waiting for the release of the Q3 report.

4:00 p.m. ET: AMD closed up 0.7% at $59.66. The Q3 report should be out soon.

3:57 p.m. ET: Expectations seem muted: AMD’s stock is down 58% since the start of the Q3 report. With PC sales notoriously weak, AMD’s guide/comment on server CPU demand is likely to get a lot of attention.

3:52 p.m. ET: FactSet consensus calls for AMD to report third-quarter revenue of $5.65 billion and non-GAAP EPS of $0.69. But since AMD issued a warning back on Oct. 6, the company’s Q4 guidance is bound to have a bigger impact on how the stock moves post-earnings. The fourth quarter selling consensus currently stands at $5.95 billion.

3:50 p.m. ET: Hello, this is Eric Jhonsa. I’ll be live blogging and calling AMD’s Q3 report.

Julie Powell, food writer behind ‘Julie & Julia’, dies at 49

Julie Powell, a writer and home cook who became a culinary phenomenon trying to prepare every recipe in Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking,” a year-long project she dedicated to an irreverent blog and book, Julie & Julia,” which was adapted into a hit film, died on October 26th at her home in Olivebridge, NY. She was 49 years old.

The cause was cardiac arrest, said a friend, Nicole Mabry.

Ms. Powell was a bored administrative assistant living in a cramped New York apartment on the cusp of her 30s when she launched her project in 2002 in “one of those panicked, cornered moments,” she later told the New York Times. Her blog, the Julie/Julia Project, was a humorous, quirky catalog of her attempt to cook all 524 recipes from her mother’s dog-eared copy of Child’s 1961 classic, Mastering the Art of French Cooking , which required her to scour grocery stores and butcher shops for rare ingredients (kidneys, sweetbreads) and learn to peel potatoes into olive shapes.

The blog brought her a wide audience and eventually a publishing deal.

Her book Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen (2005) sold about 1 million copies and was made into a film in 2009. Written and directed by Nora Ephron, Julie & Julia starred Amy Adams as Ms. Powell, whose story was intertwined with that of Child (played by Meryl Streep) and Child’s husband Paul (Stanley Tucci).

A full obituary will be released shortly.

NFL Trade: Commanders Trade Cornerback William Jackson III To Steelers

UPDATE: Official Official

UPDATE: Our review was wrong

UPDATE: Late round pick swap to terminate Jackson’s contract

UPDATE: Another team is interested in WJIII

UPDATE: Pittsburgh Steelers finalize deal for William Jackson III

Washington Commanders will reportedly release CB William Jackson III if they cannot find a commercial partner to take his contract. Trade rumors have swirled around him for weeks, but Jackson denied initial reports that he had asked for a trade and was going to a team that was enacting a plan where he could actually look like an NFL cornerback. Jackson was called out by his coach for his lack of communication and understanding of the scheme defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio operates in Washington.

William Jackson III has not played in the last 3 games and is listed with a back injury. That injury designation also caused him to miss the Week 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles and was the reason he was on the bench in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans, his last game for Washington. Since his bench press, Washington’s secondary and overall defense has improved. Benjamin St-Juste moved outside after playing the slot earlier in the season. Rachad Wildgoose, who was a waiver claim pickup after the Jets fired him to reduce their roster to 53 players, stepped in for St-Juste and has retained that role.

William Jackson III was a great free agent who signed for the Washington Football Team last year. He left the Cincinnati Bengals, who had already pulled from him, to sign a 3-year, $40.5 million deal to work with Kendall Fuller as Washington’s CB starting duo. He never seemed comfortable in the scheme and is likely to leave as the biggest FA bust of Ron Rivera’s regime in Washington.

Jair Bolsonaro comes out of his silence and promises to

Jair Bolsonaro comes out of his silence and promises to “respect the constitution” after his defeat.

He will have waited almost two days. Current Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, loser in the October 30 presidential elections against his rival Lula (49.1% versus 50.9% of the vote), finally spoke on Tuesday November 1 from the Presidential Palace in Brasilia (central Brazil) . “We are more alive than ever,” he said in a whirlwind speech in which he did not clearly admit defeat.

After thanking the millions of Brazilians who voted for him, Jair Bolsonaro preferred to take a quick look at his tenure. “We have overcome a pandemic and the consequences of a war,” he said, referring to the Covid 19 crisis and the conflict in Ukraine. He then spoke of a “feeling of injustice” regarding the election process, but did not comment on the election result and did not congratulate Lula.

“As a citizen and as President, I will always abide by the rules of the Constitution,” he stated simply before leaving his desk without answering questions from the press. It was the outgoing president’s chief of staff, Ciro Nogueira, who then confirmed that he would begin the presidential transition process “to respect the law of the country.”

Jair Bolsonaro’s speech was awaited by both his supporters and Lula’s camp, eager to start the work of “cooperation”. The long silence of the outgoing president, more used to controversial statements on social networks, surprised the Brazilian press, which scrutinized his every move. On Monday, one of his sons, Flavio, broke the family silence by thanking his father’s supporters “who gave their sweat for the country and gave Bolsonaro the biggest voice of his life”. “Let’s not let our Brazil down!” he had started on Twitter.

During his speech, Jair Bolsonaro defied the roadblocks that paralyzed several axes in Brazil on Tuesday. “The right is against these methods,” he said. According to the Federal Road Police (PRF), 250 road closures, total or partial, have been reported in at least 23 of Brazil’s 27 states. In the state of Santa Catarina (in the south of the country), where Jair Bolsonaro received almost 70 percent of the vote on Sunday, the situation is still very confused. It records the largest number of closed roads.

Petro and Maduro meet in Venezuela. These are the key issues 4:23

(CNN Spanish) — In an unprecedented event in years, the presidents of Colombia and Venezuela meet this November 1 as part of Bogotá’s effort to restore ties with Caracas after years of broken bilateral ties.

Gustavo Petro and his team arrived in Caracas just before 2 p.m. to meet with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolás Maduro at the first presidential meeting since the Colombian president arrived at the Casa de Nariño on August 7.

“The meeting is part of President Gustavo Petro’s leadership to boost the region’s economy and socialize his agenda in favor of the interests of the Latin American bloc and the protection of the Amazon, and as part of the preparatory meetings for the COP 27,” says a statement by the Colombian Presidency to announce the meeting.

The meeting is expected to take place around noon this Tuesday in Caracas, where Petro will have lunch with Maduro, according to Casa de Nariño.

a key meeting

The meeting comes at a key moment in restoring bilateral relations between Colombia and Venezuela, one of the main bets of the Petro government, with actions that began in August this year, first with the appointment of ambassadors in the two countries and then , restoration of border trade, closed for years.

The meeting was hosted by the President of Venezuela’s ruling National Constituent Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, one of Chavismo’s strongmen.

“Let the dialogue come with the President of Colombia, welcome, let the dialogue come. Lots of pending things, how long has it been since neighboring presidents haven’t met,” Cabello said this Monday.

This is the first meeting between the Presidents of Colombia and Venezuela in years. The last time the two countries’ presidents met was in August 2016, when Maduro and then-President Juan Manuel Santos held a private meeting in Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, with their respective foreign ministers, María Ángela Holguín and Delcy Rodríguez.

At the time of the meeting between Santos and Maduro, a year had already passed since the borders were closed, in a decision by Venezuela following a confrontation between Venezuelan security forces and civilians, which Maduro attributed to “paramilitarism” in Colombia and for which he blamed former President Uribe , who at the time denied the allegations.

Venezuela also deported more than a thousand Colombian citizens living on Venezuelan territory in connection with this crisis.

The topics Petro and Maduro will discuss

Bilateral relations between the two countries will be the main topic of this meeting, according to the Colombian Presidency, as well as the reopening of borders, which began in September this year, and Venezuela’s re-entry into the Inter-American human rights system.

But Petro’s arrival in Venezuela this Tuesday is crucial because of another big bet by his government: peace talks with the ELN, as Venezuela is the host country and guarantor of this peace process that is expected to begin in the next few days.

On September 14, 2022, President Gustavo Petro asked Maduro to be a guarantor in an eventual peace process with the guerrilla group. A request that Maduro immediately agreed to.

The protocols agreed with the government of Juan Manuel Santos (2010-2018) stipulated that Venezuela was the agreed country for the ELN peace delegates to return in case the process failed or they had to return to consult with troops.

And the role of this country in the peace in Colombia was very important. In addition to being a facilitator, he has been an observer and accompanist in other attempts at peace talks with armed groups and the governments of Colombia, such as the peace signed with the FARC in 2016, the release of hostages in the first decade of 2000, and the M-19 peace talks in the 1990s.

The Petro government and the ELN reinstate the talks table at 4:01

The Amazon and Latin America, another key issue

In addition to bilateral issues such as politics, peace and trade, Petro and Maduro will also discuss two important issues for the region: the protection of the Amazon and “the interests of the Latin American bloc” are to be discussed at this meeting, according to the statement by the presidency from Colombia.

With the return of Luíz Inácio Lula Da Silva following his victory in Brazil’s elections this weekend Peter has spoken an “integrated clean-energy America’s electrical power grid” and “Latin American economic integration” as the Latin American bloc has now largely turned to left-wing governments. Besides, that’s what he said Scientific Research and the “Rescue” of the Amazon It will be one of the key issues with Brazil, a region it also shares with Venezuela.

And Diosdado Cabello has “imagined” a summit where Lula, Petro and Maduro will be present.

This is likely to be another step in restoring relations between the two countries, which have been at their worst in the past four years, particularly in 2019 when opposition activists tried to send aid trucks from Colombia. The Maduro government said it was a front for an attempted coup, Portal reported.

Previous governments in Bogotá have accused Maduro of harboring Colombian rebel groups and criminals, allegations he denies.

Bilateral trade was worth $7 billion in 2008 before then-Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez froze it in protest at a military deal between Bogota and Washington.

According to Colombian ambassador to Venezuela Armando Benedetti, trade between Colombia and Venezuela this year is enough $449.7 million, an increase of 95.5%.
