Simon Sener was charged Thursday in the Montreal courthouse with attempted murder, possession of a weapon and pointing and firing a firearm.

The day after the crime, an urgent hearing was held before the Régie des alcools, des Courses et des Jeux, at the request of the police and the RACJ’s legal department, with the aim of revoking or suspending the site’s alcohol licenses.

The events of January 29 occurred while several people were still at Sharky’s, even though the shop should have closed at 3am.

The RACJ’s subpoena contains certain details regarding the circumstances of the attempted murder.

In particular, we learn that when the police arrived at the scene, “the door was locked and they had to use a pry bar to open it,” we read in the RACJ’s summons.

After an altercation in the bar, shots were fired by two gunmen. Another shot was then fired outside the facility, hitting the victim in the abdomen. The latter suffered damage to her right lung, diaphragm and liver and was in critical condition before her health improved.

“Police have identified several criminals at the scene, including the manager of the bar. The victim is believed by Laval police to be a member of a violent gang in the St-François sector (24 GANG). In addition, in June 2022, during the execution of a search warrant at the victim’s home, several items of clothing with inscriptions related to this gang were observed on the premises,” the subpoena said.

Simon Sener was arrested in Laval on Wednesday by investigators from the Multidisciplinary Firearms Team (ÉMAF) of the Montreal Police Service’s Northeast Region.

Sener has a couple of criminal records.

In September 2020, he was sentenced to 20 months in prison with two years of unsupervised probation for possession of a gun and cannabis.

According to our information, the second person who opened fire on Sharky’s Bar on the morning of January 29, and who has nothing to do with Simon Sener, was also arrested in Longueuil for possession of weapons.

Sharky’s bar is considered by the police to be a problematic meeting place for gangs.

On December 4, police officers from the Eclipse group, which specializes in monitoring licensed facilities and gathering intelligence on organized crime, were surrounded and insulted by hostile and aggressive customers during a visit to the facility, we can read the Notice of Meeting.

On Jan. 28, the day before the shooting, which left one person injured, police officers arrested a Sharky’s customer for possession of cocaine and crack, and they were pursued by the facility’s manager, who is said to have been used aggressively again, according to the RACJ document .

Following the events of January 29th, according to an agreement between the parties, Sharky’s Bar’s spirits licenses have been suspended until Friday this week.
