At least 32 people killed in separate crashes at accident sites in Turkey

ISTANBUL, Aug 20 (Portal) – At least 32 people were killed in southeastern Turkey on Saturday when vehicles crashed into first respondents attending previous crashes, authorities said.

Sixteen people, including rescue workers and journalists, died when a bus crashed into a previous accident site, said regional governor Davut Gul of southeastern Gaziantep province. Another 20 people were injured and treated.

“A passenger bus crashed here around 10:45 this morning,” Gul said from the scene of the accident on the road east of Gaziantep.

“While the fire brigade, medical teams and other colleagues were treating the accident, another bus crashed 200 meters behind him. The second bus slid onto that spot, hitting the first responders and the injured on the ground.”

Separately, a truck struck a location about 250 km (155 miles) east in the Derik district of Mardin, where footage said first responders were attending to another accident.

16 people died and 29 others were injured in the Mardin incident, Turkey’s Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said, adding that eight of the injured were in critical condition.
