In statements to teleSUR this Wednesday, the President said: “I think it was very valuable, we had the representation of 33 countries.”

“I think it is imperative for the continent to understand once and for all that we need to work together,” said the head of state.

He also pointed out that on that day he had bilateral meetings with authorities from different countries, including Honduras and Haiti, with whom he was discussing various issues.

“They were all important meetings, each with their own theme, they are different countries, but all very valuable,” he said.

On the other hand, he thanked Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro for guaranteeing the success of the Celac summit.

“Yesterday President Maduro called me and I think he was trying to promote Celac’s success and not turn Celac into a show against Maduro and I really appreciate his gesture. I am very grateful to President Maduro for thinking of Celac first,” he said.

Ahead of the summit, the Venezuelan government denounced a plan by the neo-fascist right against the delegation that would attend the summit, led by President Maduro. Against this background, Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto took part as head of the delegation.

He concluded by reminding that “CELAC’s challenge with the European Union in the middle of this year remains” and that they must work to make this summit “make sense”.

The President of Argentina handed over the pro tempore presidency of Celac to the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves.
