AOC boasts a zero-emission engagement ring made from recycled gold

No Ring of Truth! AOC has been criticized for making her engagement ring out of “zero-emission and recycled gold” – experts say almost all of the precious metal is reused anyway

  • On Thursday, AOC spoke about her sparkler as she made the big announcement of sharing news about her engagement
  • Many suggested that AOC’s zero emissions claim meant the diamond she wore was created in a lab and not extracted from the earth
  • Fans of the official gushed about their upcoming nuptials and loved that their forever band was zero-emission
  • The Bronx-Queens lawmaker met her longtime boyfriend Riley Roberts when they were students at Boston University
  • The couple got engaged in Ocasio-Cortez’s native Puerto Rico
  • She said she’s taking some space before the wedding to savor her engagement

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shared details of her very ethical engagement ring on Twitter, announcing, “It’s zero emissions and recycled gold.”

The 32-year-old US official shared the information when journalist Francesca Fiorentini tweeted her to say, “Your ring must be tinfoil or the law will topple.”

AOC – which announced her engagement to marketer friend Riley Roberts on Thursday – didn’t explain what she meant by zero emissions.

Pundits have speculated whether the progressive democratic socialist may have opted for an artificial “lab-grown” diamond rather than the traditionally mined variety.

These are often dug out of the ground by impoverished people suffering appalling working conditions, which has led to the term “blood diamond”.

They have speculated that AOC’s ring may have cost anywhere from $10,000 to $30,000.

Peter Kahan of Katz Jewelry in New York’s Diamond District disputed AOC’s claims about recycled gold, telling the New York Post that “recycled gold is a marketing term used to advertise gold. All gold is recycled. No gold is ever wasted.

He added, “If it’s grown in a lab… it’s not a blood diamond.”

Some of AOC’s 13 million Twitter followers spoke in appreciation of their band’s commitment to ethics.

“Hero,” wrote one person

“A lot of hearts break. You are a class, please don’t change. Congratulations,” said another.

‘Best wishes to you both!’

Meanwhile, others didn’t feel the love, some questioning their claims and inserting their fear into their political agenda.

“Originally mined, before recycling, by slave labor… I thought you were progressive…”

“But tax the rich, right?” said one person.

“Receives a zero-emission engagement ring made from recycled gold, then votes to send $50 billion to fund a war that will create a lot of emissions. Ridiculous,” said another.

They were referring to AOC’s recent vote to continue sending billions of dollars worth of US arms to Ukraine.

“Was it fair trade gold from the start? You are still a hypocrite.’

The Bronx-Queens lawmaker met her longtime fiancé, Riley Roberts, a marketing executive, when they were both undergraduates at Boston University.

The couple had gone their separate ways after they finished school and Roberts returned to Arizona. They later rekindled their romance, the news outlet reported

In April, the couple got engaged in AOC’s native Puerto Rico. She told The Insider she “takes some space to savor her engagement” before planning the wedding.

Despite the critics, AOC’s ring caught the eye of Tuscany Rose Watch and Diamond owner John Buckley.

“It seems like a nice brand,” Buckley said in part. “From the pictures I would say it is a 1.75-2.25 carat solitaire set in yellow gold.”

He added that a ring of this size can start at $10,000 and go up to a whopping $30,000,
