Ant and Dec revealed the exciting news on Twitter on Thursday, writing: “South Africaaaaaaa! That’s right, we’re filming a very special version of ‘I’m A Celebrity’ in South Africa coming to your TVs in 2023.

Alongside the tweet, a video showed the television duo speaking on a rocky terrain with scenic mountains and water all around them, saying, “We have news.”

Describing it as “TV’s worst kept secret,” Dec continues, “We can confirm that we’re doing a very special series of ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ In South Africa!

“It will be your favorite stars from the last 20 years coming back to do it once more.”

The Geordie duo, who have hosted the show since it started in 2002, announced that the ITV show is set to return Down Under later this year.

They also answered questions about the series, which is returning to Australia later this year after the previous two series took place at Gwrych Castle in North Wales due to travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ant asks his co-star, “But are we going to Australia Declan?” to which Dec replies, “Yes, we are. This year we are flying to Australia again. That will be next year.’

Construction of the famous camp has begun and parts of the set will be connected by a suspended air bridge in the Blyde River Canyon in North East South Africa.

Ant McPartlin, 46, told hosts Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart Radio on May 26 this year: ‘The plan is that we go back to Australia. It must go back to its spiritual home. Everyone wants to see some sun on TV this time of year.”

With the show rumored to be hitting screens on November 13th, Ant and Dec got to work filming the promos.

Declan Donnelly was spotted beaming alongside co-star Ant a few weeks ago this week as he was pictured back at work for the first time since the sudden death of his older brother Dermot.

The 46-year-old presenter was “beyond devastated” last month after his “dearest” Roman Catholic priest brother Dermot Donnelly died aged 55 following a breakdown at his parish in Newcastle.

But Dec seemed to be recovering from his family tragedy as he plunged into his work while filming “skydiving” scenes for a brand new I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! ad.

And it seemed like ITV was pulling out all the stops for the new series, as the duo were seen hooked to harnesses and suspended from a wire as they simulated jumping out of a helicopter.

As proof that they weren’t afraid to do their own stunts, Ant and Dec were seen dangling in the air using a wind machine while crew members maneuvered the ropes holding them up.

The show has been moved between the UK and Australia during the pandemic due to strict Covid-19 travel restrictions.

In December last year, Ant and his co-star Dec Donnelly, also 46, spoke about wanting to return to Australia and joked that they could “torture” housemates more Down Under.

Ant said: “I think we’d love to go back to Australia. We’ve had a great time in Wales for two years – we felt really welcome and at home – but Australia is really his homeland so we’d love to go back next year if we can.”

Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield this morning, Ant confirmed: “It’s a spin-off of the main show where we have ex-camp mates all coming together in South Africa and facing challenges and trials… shall I keep talking? “

A source previously said: “Fans have been crying out for a Best Of series for years and their prayers are being answered.

“The South African project is in no way a backup, it’s a completely different series. All of the iconic names that have made the show so popular over the years will return to the campfire and compete to be crowned Best Of champions.

“There are so many to choose from and now the most debated are being singled out.

Elsewhere, the nation’s favorite duo spoke about their legendary drag act Saturday Night Takeaway on the morning of back-to-back interviews.

Ant recalled: “We’ve had a lot of messages from parents saying, ‘My boy is different, he likes to dress differently, but he can go to school now and can now do and dress however he wants’ – which is great is. We never expected that, we thought we would have some fun.

Dec chimed in: “I have a newfound respect for anyone who walks in heels.”
