Amy Winehouse’s father defends the actress who will play the role of his daughter in the cinema

Amy Winehouse’s father defends actress Marisa Abela as Amy Winehouse in the film Back to black.

Filming for the biographical feature began on January 16 in London, and fans weren’t too impressed with the photos, in which the actress played Amy Winehouse.

Many complained that Marisa Abela didn’t look like the rehab actress. Mitch Winehouse, the executor of his daughter’s estate, defended the cast.

“Marisa is a great choice for the role, even though she doesn’t look like Amy,” he told TMZ.

He also reported that Eddie Marsan, who plays him, doesn’t look very much like him either, but he doesn’t mind if they aren’t mirror images. He also said that “it puts too much emphasis on looks” and that many actors have played real characters in ways they didn’t look in the past.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson from a script by Matt Greenhalgh.

In a press release announcing the filming, Sam Taylor-Johnson said, “I am thrilled and honored to have this opportunity to share Amy’s beautiful, unique and tragic story along with the most important part of his legacy, his music film. I am fully aware of this responsibility. Along with my fellow writer Matt Greenhalgh, I will create a film that we will all love and cherish forever, just as we do for Amy. »

The biopic features many of Amy Winehouse’s hit songs and has the full endorsement of representatives from Universal Music Group, Sony Music Publishing and The Amy Winehouse Estate.

The cast also includes Jack O’Connell as Blake Fielder-Civil, Amy Winehouse’s toxic ex-husband, and Lesley Manville, who will play the singer’s grandmother, Cynthia.

Amy Winehouse died of an alcohol overdose in 2011 at the age of 27.
