Amandla Stenberg is called out by a film critic after the actress criticizes her

The New York Times film critic Lena Wilson has hit out at actress Amandla Stenberg on social media.

Lena announced that she had received a direct message from Amandla on her Instagram about the review she had made for her film Bodies Bodies Bodies.

Amandla, who came out as gay in 2018, had offended Lena’s copy, which referenced cleavage, but called her NYT review “great.”

Lena’s review of the cleavage consisted of one sentence that read, “The only thing that really sets Bodies Bodies apart is their place in the A24 hype machine, where they double as a 95-minute promotion for cleavage and the latest single by Charli XCX.”

Lena, who is a lesbian, also tweeted, “Always weird when the homophobia comes out of the house but that’s something,” alluding to the fact that they’re both part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Lena pointed out that Amandla seemed to focus only on her and not on other film critics.

Lena shared Amandla’s DM on her Twitter and TikTok.

In the DM, Amandla wrote: “Your review was great, maybe if you took your eyes off my t**s you could have seen the movie!”

Lena answered Amandla: “Hey, Amandla! generally a big fan of your work, but that’s something for sure. I really wish you all the best in your career and life. Good night.’

The film critic then blocked her on Instagram, as can be seen in the DM screenshot.

Lena also tweeted, “Do you think she Instagram DMed Alison Willmore, Justin Chang and Anthony Lane like this or,” she included the DM screenshot.

She also tweeted, “Always weird when the homophobia comes out of the house but this is something.”

Lena tweeted another: ‘me: (spends a line of a 500-word review jokingly commenting on how A24 objectifies young women to sell content). Random Men on Twitter dot com and apparently so does Amandla Stenberg: Local d**e Cannot Stop Talking About Boobies.

A24 is the distributor of the film.

She also took to TikTok and shared a video: “Haven’t been here in a while but just checked my Instagram DMs because a really nice person let me know that Jennifer’s body is playing in 35mm at the Roxy this weekend . If you are in New York you must go there. There’s a disgusting amount of tickets left.’

“I looked at my DM request and found this, which I’ll let speak for itself a bit now. For context, I reviewed Bodies Bodies Bodies for the New York Times and really didn’t like it, and I said so. Ironically, though, I did praise the acting.’

“I don’t want this to become anything else, I’m devastated to have even received this news. I was a real big fan of hers but I’m posting it because I don’t want this person who has more social power than me to think that it’s fucking okay to do something like that. And that’s it.’

She captioned TikTok, “Unfathomably weird being bullied by a whole different lesbian, ‘I don’t want you in the dressing room while I change my clothes.’
