Quebec’s Bennedict Mathurin has reached a major milestone in his career by scoring 1,000 points in the NBA. However, the Indiana Pacers lost 123-117 to the Utah Jazz on Monday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The Montreal native became the fastest rookie to reach this milestone in Pacers history since Chuck Person in 1986-87.

Mathurin finished the game against the Jazz with 21 points, four rebounds and two assists. He was his coach’s second most played player after spending 31 minutes and 49 seconds on the pitch.

The duel was particularly close, but the Jazz orchestrated a 34-point push in the fourth quarter to save themselves with the win. Among the winners were Lauri Markkanen and Jordan Clarkson. Both scored 29 points.

Hornets surprise hawks

At the Spectrum Center, the Charlotte Hornets began a seven-game losing streak by defeating the Atlanta Hawks 144-138.

The Eastern Conference bottoms were undeterred by Georgia’s squad and scored an impressive 36 points in the opening frame.

Hornets players Lamelo Ball and Terry Rozier led with 30 and 29 points, respectively.

Hawks star point guard Trae Young was the team’s top offensive player with 25 points.
