Alouettes Trevor Harris job at risk

Alouettes: Trevor Harris’ job at risk?

Apparently confused by his offensive performance, Montreal Alouettes general manager and interim head coach Danny Maciocia declined to confirm that Trevor Harris will be his quarterback for his team’s next game.

Led by the 36-year veteran, the offensive managed just one touchdown in a 35-20 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday night.

Harris finished his duel with 16 completions on 26 attempts for 127 yards and a major. He was also the victim of two interceptions and it was Dominique Davis who ended the confrontation behind the center.

“We can’t handle adversity,” Maciocia said shortly after the game. We’re looking for problems. I think we need to get back to work and look at everything. We must make the choices that allow us to give ourselves a chance to solve these problems and strive for victories.

“We will have to evaluate everything in the next few days,” the DG added twice.

“Unacceptable”

The Alouettes’ defense provided four turnovers against the two-time defending champions in the Gray Cup. However, the attack could not take advantage of this and only scored three small points after winning the ball from the defense.

“If we get the ball twice as close to the end zone and only get three points, that’s not acceptable. If it’s 14-0 instead of 3-0, it’s a whole different game,” Harris said.

“I’ll see what I can do better and every member of our attack needs to look in the mirror.”

Maciocia also pointed out that Harris wasn’t solely responsible for the offense’s mistakes. With the exception of Eugene Lewis, the 55-year-old hasn’t been impressed with his regular line-up. He also criticized his offensive line while his pivot suffered three quarterback sacks.

Few options

Though he intends to reevaluate his options for the starting quarterback position, Maciocia doesn’t have much of a choice when he faces the same Blue Bombers next Thursday.

Recently, the Alouettes put Vernon Adams Jr. on the injury list for six games. The one who started as a starter at the first two meetings of the 2022 season suffers from an elbow injury.

There’s always a chance to trust Davis, but he’s better known for his running than his ability to throw the ball. Fans will also remember the interception he threw in the last play against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats when the “Als” had an opportunity to level.

Maciocia could also decide to give the ball to first-year Davis Alexander, who has yet to throw a single pass in a CHL regular-season game. In two preseason meetings this year, the 23-year-old American has completed 74% of his stints for 233 yards and hasn’t been able to find the pay zone with his arm.
