“All I Want for Christmas Is You”: Mariah Carey rings in the holiday season in New York

Mariah Carey officially opened the holiday season at the end of the traditional Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday.

The diva – in a gorgeous magenta mermaid dress – umbrella in hand, performed her anthem All I Want for Christmas Is You at the foot of the giant turkey that was set up at the entrance to the store in New York.

As dancers dressed as Nutcrackers surrounded her, her 11-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, emerged from two giant gift boxes placed behind the singer towards the end of the song.

This achievement allowed Mariah Carey to achieve a dream. “My childhood dream come true! I will open for the one and only Santa,” she wrote on Instagram this morning.

Big Time Rush, Sean Paul, Paula Abdul, Jordin Sparks, Dionne Warwick, Betty Who and Fitz and the Tantrums also took the stage during the televised event, Rolling Stone magazine reported.

During the holiday season, the American singer will perform at venues including the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and Madison Square Garden in New York.

The annual Thanksgiving parade began at 9 a.m. Thursday morning and marched about 2.5 miles through the streets of the Big Apple. This tradition has continued since 1924.
