The Santa Fe District Attorney has announced that actor and producer Alec Baldwin (pictured) will be charged with manslaughter in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.. The incident happened in October 2021 while filming the film Rust.

The production’s gunsmith, Hannah GutierrezReed, was also charged with the same crime. David Halls, the production assistant who gave the actor the gun, is charged with negligent use of a firearm after signing an agreement with prosecutors.

Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was injured when a gun Baldwin was using during rehearsal fired a live bullet. The film was shot at Bonanza Creek Ranch outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Baldwin explained that the team told him the gun wasn’t loaded and he hadn’t pulled the trigger. However, an FBI forensic test found the revolver “operated normally” and would not fire without the trigger being pulled.
