Airplane: A woman dies mid flight in front of her family

The victim’s husband and two children had to stay with the body for the remaining eight hours of the flight.

Helen Rhodes, a mother, died in her sleep on Friday August 5 after boarding a flight from Hong Kong to the UK. Her husband and two children were forced to stand in front of her lifeless body for more than eight hours while they waited for the plane to make an emergency landing in Frankfurt, Germany.

According to The Guardian, Helen Rhodes “slept in her seat gasping for air for the remaining eight hours of the flight. Although it was extremely traumatic for the family, they always had time to tell him what they needed to tell him. The family returned to Britain after more than fifteen years abroad. When the plane landed in Germany, “Helen’s body stayed in Frankfurt” while her husband Simon and their two children Nathan and Emma flew to the UK, reports the British newspaper. Her return was the first since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Her friend Jayne Jeje created an open kitten to help the family “pay for the burial and repatriation costs of his remains,” Le Point explains. Donations so far amount to almost 25,000 euros. In a text accompanying the kitten, Jayne Jeje speaks and introduces Helen Rhodes, who was a midwife when always “available to help others.” “She was smart, funny and generous with her time. We can only hope she knew how much she meant to us,” she says.
