With every riff heralding the hit, the vibration was a goal in the championship finals, as on “Fear of the Dark” and “The Trooper,” songs that shook the track, the stands, and the boxes.

The audience responded with enthusiasm to the excitement of the singer, who even at the age of 64, who just turned over on August 7 and after suffering from throat cancer, still sings the group’s anthems with aplomb and poise, despite being hesitant has kept some high notes “Aces High”, which ended the show inside São Paulo and prepared the audience for what happened on Friday (2) on the first day of Rock in Rio and on Sunday (4) at Morumbi Stadium Paulo Paul (SP) will come to São.

“Cry for me, Ribeirão Preto”

The longawaited “Scream for me Ribeirão Preto”, sung for the first time in the band’s history, only took place before the third song “The Writing on the Wall” from the Senjutsu album, which was released in 2021. As expected, it was madness.

Previously, the audience enjoyed “Stratego”, also from the latest album, and “Senjutsu”, homonym to the CD, which opened the show. In this song, the mascot Eddie appeared dressed as a samurai in the midst of a scenario related to Japan, leading the audience to triple the delirium of Iron Maiden’s opening chords on stage.

This delirium drove the musicians of the ’60s and ’70s, who kept the vitality of playing, running and jumping on stage in every song as if they were at the beginning of their career.

After the newer songs, the band’s classics entered the field. The first was “Revelations” from the 1983 album “Piece of Mind”. With stained glass windows on the stage, fans understood that from now on it was just a “club” featuring Dickinson, Steve Harris, Nicko McBrain, Janick Gers, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith.

Speaking with the public with more time, Bruce, in one of the rare interactions, greeted fans from Ribeirão Preto and from across Brazil, risking it in Portuguese with a typically foreign accent. “Good night, Ribeirao”. And changed.

“It’s the second night in Brazil. We have many friends in Brazil, we have many friends here tonight.”

He then greeted the Argentinian and Chilean fans who proudly waved their flags in front of the stage and mentioned viewers from other countries like France and Germany before saying that Iron Maiden has true blood brothers. He introduced “Blood Brothers” from the album “Brave New World” released in 2000.

In an instant the scene changed and the dark tone, with Gregorian chants playing in the background, already hinted that “Sign of the Cross” would be the next song. In the performance, Bruce showed the actor’s side, keeping the audience’s eyes ever more fixed on the stage while wearing a cross to each corner of the structure.

“Flight of Icarus” brought to the stage a puppet from Greek mythology whose dream was to fly. Bruce literally ignited the audience on the hit with a flamethrower, driving them into a frenzy in a way that had never happened before, ripping out a “Maiden, Maiden, Maiden” from the audience that went wild as the riff of “Fear of the Dark” echoed through the loud and clean sound installed in the Eurobike Arena.

It was the highlight of the performance for both those who were new to an Iron Show and those who had been to one, two or dozens of performances. All followed the guitar and bass fingerings such as the famous “ôôô” which was also repeated as the music turned heavy rock.

Knowing the audience was already in their hands, Dickinson and Steve Harris didn’t hesitate to ask for applause to accompany the rhythm of “Hallowed Be Thy Name.” Here, too, help was provided immediately.

With “The Number of the Beast” and “Iron Maiden” credited as the band’s anthems, the first part of the performance ended with Janick Gers dancing on the stage floor and even “saluting” the guitar as if he were in Ecstasy.

Even as the musicians threw picks and drumsticks into the crowd, no one moved from where they were. The show was after 1:30 when the whole stadium vibrated like a gate again.

It was Maiden’s return to the stage for three more hits: “The Trooper”, which reserved the duel between Dickinson and the mascot Eddie, including the singer who defeated him with the Brazilian flag, “The Clansman”, sung from head to toe everyone and “Run To The Hills” which, although it boosted the fans’ spirits even more by starting a new farewell, didn’t make anyone run from the venue.

The “grand finale” was missing. The plane was about to take off and nobody wanted to lose their seat on the flight to enjoy ‘Aces High’, a classic from the 1984 album ‘Powerlsave’. Credited to Bruce Dickinson dressed as the pilot and on When a plane flew over the ceiling of the stage and crashed into the musicians, the band said goodbye to Ribeirão Preto in style on Friday for the fifth participation of their career at Rock in Rio.

“Thank you Ribeirao. See you at Rock in Rio, or maybe in São Paulo, or somewhere else,” Dickinson said goodbye to the 25,000 fans who were able to enjoy the twohour show in the crowded, but not crowded, Eurobike Arena in peace, sure that every second of the It was worth waiting for the debut in Ribeirão Preto.
