Forrozeiro Alcymar Monteiro, one of Northeastern music’s most important icons, has been embroiled in controversy since the weekend when a video circulated in which the singer harshly criticized musicians in his band. Alcymar Monteiro criticizes his musicians during a show in the Pernambuco countryside
In the video circulating on social media, Alcymar Monteiro criticized the way the introduction to one of his songs was played. According to him, it was not simply played by the musicians. “Forró is easy. Why bend it there? I’m speaking publicly because it’s not the first time this has happened. I have to show up here. I am the artist,” said Alcymar Monteiro.
Two days after the video went viral, Alcymar Monteiro released a video apologizing and attributing his way of speaking to exhaustion from the various shows over his 36year career. However, the request was not well received by the musicians.
The criticism in the video appeared to be aimed at the accordionist from the band Forroteria, who accompanies Alcymar Monteiro. However, trombonist Sandro Trombomba, trumpeter Jefferson Silveira and saxophonist Chico Botelho, in charge of the group’s brass section, reported that the criticism was directed at them. The three reported via the networks that they had left the band.

Musicians made a joint post to announce the band’s departure

In a live event, Jeffeson Silveira even revealed details about his relationship with Alcymar Monteiro. According to him, the humiliations and screams that the forrozeiro uttered against the musicians were constant. “My idols are here. If Alcymar Monteiro is the artist, he is the king, my king and idol is this one, my father. And it is for the dignity that I have, for the values that he taught me, the I’m deserted,” he said. .
