Acura introduces a precision electric concept at Monterey Car Week

During Monterey Car Week, Acura unveiled its Precision electric SUV concept, which represents the brand’s vision for the future.

“Precision-engineered performance is at the core of everything we do, and the Acura Precision EV concept embodies that commitment on our electrification journey,” said James Marchand, associate vice president of Acura Canada.

Aesthetically, the prototype is inspired by the unique form and function of Italian luxury powerboats. This gives the Precision a wide wheelbase and an expressive silhouette. The body wears a blue tint with a matte finish.

The “particle glitch” lighting – a more techno styling cue – is found on the front and rear fascia and is also repeated on the spokes of the 23-inch wheels. The diamond pentagon grille and the “chicane” type daytime running lights also light up.

“The Acura Precision EV Concept continues to perfect the ‘Fluid and Dynamic’ exterior design language with a pronounced front fascia featuring the next-generation illuminated and flowing fascia for an electric vehicle,” said Andy Foster, chief exterior designer.

ecological concern

The interior design is performance oriented as it is directly inspired by Formula 1. This is particularly reflected in a low and stretched driving position and a dual-grip fork steering wheel.

In addition, the interior has been designed with an ecological focus, using sustainable and ecological materials. Among other things, the cabin is equipped with panels made of recycled plastic with a marble look and leather made from biomass. In addition, the secondary steering wheel controls are made from aluminum and recycled acrylic.

“As the definition of premium and performance evolves to include the use of sustainable materials, we are evaluating new and innovative material technologies to inspire our customers to reduce our carbon footprint and enable the brand to reimagine the perception of quality rate,” said Gypsy Modina, senior designer of colors, materials and finishes.

Two driving modes

The Acura Precision concept also introduces the new generation of HMI, a large, tactile and transparent curved screen. When starting the vehicle, the “Particle Glitch” graphics reflect the exterior details of the vehicle.

The driver can also choose between two driving modes. Instinctive Mode helps maximize driving pleasure, including powering the cabin with racing-style digital gauges and red ambient lighting.

Conversely, Spirit Lounge mode retracts the steering wheel and changes the environment with an animated “underwater” projection, allowing the driver to relax and re-energize.

Although the Acura Precision concept uses a future design language, it will take until 2024 for the brand’s electrification plans to become a reality. Be continued!
