According to a survey in Peru , the majority believes the protests are justified

The poll by the Institute for Peruvian Studies (IEP) refuted the preaching of protesters’ critics that they were unjustified and opposed by the majority of citizens, and confirmed the overwhelming disapproval of the parliament, which supports Boluarte.

According to the survey, 60 percent of the population considered the protests, which began in December and resumed on December 4, to be justified, while 35 percent disagreed.

The demonstrations and blockades are also justified for the majority of respondents in Lima (52 percent and 72 percent of young people) and in the north of the country (55), where traditionally conservative positions prevail.

A relative majority, 50 percent, identify with the statements of dissatisfaction, while 46 percent disagree.

On the other hand, 58 percent believe the police operation led to riots and 26 percent believe they acted appropriately, as the government claims.

In this context, 71 percent of Peruvians oppose the governance in the hands of President Boluarte and 19 percent approve of it, a lower percentage than former President Castillo, whom she replaced after he was sacked by parliament and imprisoned.

The situation is worse for the Republic’s Congress, with 88 percent opposed and just under 9 percent in favor – and whose majority supports the government – while its incumbent, José Williams, registers 72 percent opposed and just 16 percent in your favour.

If the president steps down, the successor would fall to Williams, but given their low support, the progressive benches in Congress are proposing that the parliamentary plenum neutrally and by consensus elect a new holder to take over as head of state and promptly chair snap elections. .

The IEP poll also asked about the fall of former President Castillo, and while 66 percent disapproved of the attempt to dissolve Congress that landed him in prison, 30 percent approve of the action.

In addition, 41 percent propose conditional or full release (18) or not trial (1 percent).
