ESPN.com reported that the Packers had made a “substantial long-term contract offer” to Rodgers, and it was expected to “change the quarterback market.” The contract offer was not mentioned in the report, but most likely Rodgers would have become the highest paid player in the NFL.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes signed a $450 million 10-year extension in July and is currently the highest paid player in the league. The Packers offer was to pay Rodgers over $45 million a year.

It was reported last week that Rogers could be making nearly $50 million a year.

The Packers are currently $26.4 million over their projected 2022 salary cap, according to Over the Cap. If Rodgers signs a mega deal with the Packers, the team will likely have to allocate more space to the star rather than Davante Adams. It’s likely that Adams will get a franchise label, meaning his one-year deal will be worth $18.42 million.
