A young child drowns in a residential swimming pool in Portneuf – Le Journal de Quebec

A toddler drowned in a swimming pool last Saturday residential in Saint-Marc-des-Carrières, in Portneuf, we found out on Monday.

The emergency services were called to intervene around 4 p.m. on Principale Avenue for a person in distress.

“According to initial information, a small child was found lifeless in a private swimming pool,” said Hélène St-Pierre, spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec.

Resuscitation maneuvers were performed on the young victim, whose exact age was not released by the authorities.

The child was transported to the hospital center where, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead.

Media attention was only drawn to this event on Monday.

So far, little is known about the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. According to Ms St-Pierre, it is too early to move forward.

“As with any death of a small child,” the Major Crimes Investigation Service and Forensic Identification Service were dispatched to the scene to shed light on the crime, she said.

The thesis of the accident is not excluded.

As of Monday, there have been 45 drownings since the beginning of the year, according to the Quebec Lifesaving Society, compared to 54 at the same time in 2021.

In Quebec, nearly seven out of ten people drown in natural settings. Drowning in swimming pools accounts for about 15% of incidents, according to the organization.
