The white march, organized by Moreen’s family and relatives, started this Saturday morning, August 20, 2022, from the parking lot of the Hibiscus shopping center in Les Abymes. Partly in the rain, the procession, made up of about thirty people, towards the scene of the accident that occurred on the evening of August 13, 2021, namely the Lacroix sector; This passes through the town of Pointe-à-Pitre.

Remember Moreen is the 11-year-old kid who was struck down by a speeder while she was on a crosswalk. The driver fled, leaving her in the middle of the street. The seriously injured young girl succumbed to her injuries after being hospitalized at Guadeloupe’s University Hospital Center (CHU); Here she was born on April 28, 2010.

Today, a year later, the relatives of this little victim wanted to honor his memory. Moreen’s comrades stood by the mother and her two grieving sisters.

Moreen’s mother, who was supposed to speak after the march, was unable to do so. She suffered from ailments. For a year “she hasn’t been living well”, said one of her relatives, “Moreen was her princess”.

This story is reminiscent of the so-called “T-Max scooter” that occurred in Providence at Les Abymes on August 8th. The man who struck and seriously injured a 4-year-old child has now been sentenced to 18 months in prison. This case was heard under an immediate appearance procedure.

This is not the case with Moreen in the accident that caused my death.

A court case is being investigated

After a witness call, two suspects were arrested a dozen days after the fatal crash and hit-and-run. The police managed to arrest the suspected driver and passenger.

“The statement is still pending for further investigation,” says the Pointe-à-Pitre prosecutor’s office, “therefore it is subject to secrecy.”
