A native of Farnham, he is playing his first career season in professional ice hockey. He played with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL and with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.

Poirier had 10 games in the second-best league in North America, holding a 5-3-2 record, a .913 save percentage and a 2.48 goals-against average.

The 21-year-old goaltender was a sixth-round pick (185th overall) of the Stars in the 2020 draft. Poirier previously played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, all with the Gatineau Olympiques.
