A driver is missing from Watkins Glen NASCAR odds

A driver is missing from the odds list for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race, but it’s not hard to see why as an official announcement emerges.

Watkins Glen International will host the fifth and final road race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series regular season this Sunday.

Go Bowling at The Glen is the penultimate race of the 26-race regular season, with Daytona International Speedway scheduled to host the floodlit finale next Saturday night.

WynnBET released the odds for this 90-lap race at the 2.454-mile (3.949-kilometer) eight-corner street course in Watkins Glen, New York earlier this week, and the drivers at the top of the list come as no surprise at all.

Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott leads at +425 after winning two of the last three races at the track and is the sport’s active road course leader with seven wins, ahead of Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick at +500.

Reddick has won the two most recent road races at Road America and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Before these races he had never won a cup race.

Kyle Larson, the reigning Watkins Glen International race winner, gives Hendrick Motorsports two of the top three and sits third at +700.

Here are the full odds for Sunday’s race, courtesy of WynnBET.

However, there is one driver (or two, if you want to look at it that way) who is particularly missing from this list and that is 23XI Racing’s Kurt Busch.

Busch is the full-time driver of the #45 Toyota, but has been sidelined since his qualifying crash at Pocono Raceway that left him with concussion-like symptoms. He aspires to return but has no plans to speed up his recovery.

Ty Gibbs, also not listed, has represented him in the last four races and could be called upon again as the NASCAR Xfinity Series will also compete at Watkins Glen International this weekend.

Busch was listed as the driver of the #45 Toyota on the 39-car entry list, but an official decision didn’t come from him on Wednesday, as it had in recent weeks.

Could it be a good sign that we didn’t get one if we’re used to it, or could it be a bad sign that he doesn’t see himself competing at the moment and is waiting an extra day to try and change that?

In any case, expect a decision soon.
